Fees
We know you have an interest in what our legal services will cost you. We make it a policy to discuss fees with you at your initial free consultation. Being consistent with our philosophy to treat others as we would like to be treated, we charge fees that are fair and reasonable. A fair and reasonable fee depends upon and reflects such factors as time and effort required and spent and the complexity of the matter.
Our fees are initially calculated on our estimate of the time and expertise required to complete your requested services. If the work can easily be done by a junior lawyer, we will quote you at those rates - not at a senior lawyer’s rates. You derive the added benefit of a senior lawyer's experience without additional cost.
Generally, we will give you a fee quote based on industry standard. For complicated files with unknown factors, we will calculate the amount of time we expect to be spent on the file and give you a range of fee estimate. If it appears that your file has become increasingly complex, we will let you know and we will again discuss the fees. For matters which require a significant amount of disbursements, we will ask you to cover those out-of-pocket expenses before we commence work on the file. Notarization of documents is provided to clients at no charge.
We are open to arrangements for the creative payment of fees in respect clients whose cash requirements are such that they need to make payments over time or in some alternate manner. We gladly work with start-ups and entrepreuners in this respect.
We are willing to work on a monthly retainer as part-time General Counsel or for those of our clients who would simply like to avoid worrying about the cost of communicating with their lawyer on a regular basis. Arrangements in this manner greatly reduce the ongoing cost of legal services.
